Question:
can anyone help me identify this guitar? I just bought it used thinking it was just another cheap import guitar. I can't believe it. Not only does it look incredible ( alot of cheap guitars can look incredible) it plays awsome. I couldn't put it down. My fingers are so sore I don't know if I will ever recover. I did e-mail Ibanez with a request by they may never get back to me. From surfing the net I think it is an s series. It is 1989 according to serial # but I don't know which s model it is. It has 2 single coil IBZ USA C-2's and one IBZ USA F2 at the bridge. It has a five way switch and an angled input jack. It also has a Tremolo arm. It is a beautiful purplish burgundy color. The neat part is all I have seen say made in Korea. This one has a black neck plate that says Pennsylvania U.S.A. Were any made in U.S.A.? Maybe assembled here? The tuners say made in Japan. It also has a nice black plush hardshell Ibanez case for it. It has a tremendous sustain and harmonics that I never even knew existed. It can be made to sound almost like any type guitar. I haven't touched my 63 Jaguar since I bought this. I may never need another guitar. Am I overreacting or is this thing as good as I think it
Answer:
Ibanez is based in the USA ( the Hoshino factories are overseas, but the actual corporate seat is here). This fools a lot of people, ditto Charvel/Jackson stuff marked Fort Worth, TX despite being built in Asia. If the neck says Korea, then the guitar was made there. Not uncommon for parts to come form a different company. If it's S-series, it should have smooth rounded edges to the body. I don't have my Ibanez catalogs here at work to check the pickup models to help ID it further.
