Question:
looking for some reviews on the Ibanez V72E-NT. Is this a good guitar for a beginner? How about sound, setup, etc.?
Answer:
I seem to be finding more reviews and prices on this guitar outside of the US than inside, using Google. To be honest, I've never been a big fan of Ibanez steel string acoustics, although they do make a decent low-priced classical. They always sound a little tinny to me. That said, there are a lot of very good low-priced acoustics, most made in Asia. Because inexpensive guitars are much better than they used to be, probably just about anything between $150 - $200 (US) will sound decent, be playable (after a setup), and stay in tune. The big question is what kind of music do you like? If you are really into rock go immediately to an electric. They are easier to play and you'll have what you wanted in the first place. Otherwise, go into a local shop and pick up some guitars and see how they feel in your hands. If you can't play at all, bring a friend or have someone in the shop play a few for you. IMO you don't find the guitar. The guitar finds you, and it's very subjective. A guitar that we might love you might hate. A guitar that you love we might hate. Personally, I always go for tone, and Ibanez may very well have the sound you are looking for. My first acoustic was a Blueridge for $150. The top has kinda caved in on itself over the years, but it still sounds great and plays well. Once I learned how to play I rewarded myself with a nice Martin. :-) I'm still not that great, but I love my Martin, and I also really like the inexpensive Ibanez classical I bought. For whatever reason I had to go way up in price to find a guitar that sounds better than my Ibanez classical, but when I picked up an Ibanez steel string I didn't have to go far to find a guitar with better sound.
