Question:
I've got a Yamaha BBN4 III and I've been playing bass guitar for almost a year now (I'm 16 years old). So I wanted a new guitar and I went looking around in shops and stuff. There was one guitar that got my attention: an Ibanez of the Soundgear series. I got rather small hands so the thin neck is ideal for me. But I haven't got any experience in buying basses and stuff, so could you please help me? My question is: what is your opinion about the Ibanez Soundgear? Should I buy it or are there any reasons why I shoudn't?
Answer:
Which model? I've owned like 5 SR400s with various electronics, fretted and fretless, an SR405 5 string (nice bass, but horrible B string), an SR800, and I'm now playing an Ergodyne, which has the same neck as the SR series. If you've been playing for a year and you like the feel of it, go for it. I wouldn't get any of the GSR series, and if you go for anything under a SR400, play it before you buy it, since the quality can really vary on the lower quality Ibanez instruments. I've been a fan of the SR series for years, mainly due to the neck. I have an SR400 for sale on Ebay if you're interested I have the SR 3000 prestige and it's a great bass. It can really compete with much more expensive bassguitars. And yes It sings, it has a fabulous clean tone that keeps going on forever. The neck is also great, I can do some really fast work on it.
