Question:
I can't find the original post but someone mentioned that the S series Ibanez with z-tremolo were amazing. On their site they have 3 different S series: s, sa and sz. I don't care much for fancy looks but want a good shred axe with decent sustain (at minimal cost). Which s series would be a good fit??? While on the same thread, I have a new American 50th Anniv. Strat and was wondering if there is a way to get rid of the floating bridge setup (to get more sustain) without damaging the value the guitar.
Answer:
I have an SZ320BS which is mahogany with a maple top and 2 humbuckers. It's a great guitar, no tremelo though... The S series is the only one available with the ZR (zero-resistance) trem. The SZ's are all string through, and the SA's are all non-locking trems. A friend of mine has the SZ720FMTG and while it's a sweet guitar I wouldn't really consider it a shredder. From what I gather, the shredders love the Wizard series of necks. I believe they're only available on the S and RG series. I have an older S370 with Ibanez's knockoff of the Floyd Rose and it's great. It's a shame I'm not fast enough to use the Wizard II neck to it's full shredding potential :-) I never have any trouble staying in tune. In fact I never have any trouble with my Floyd equipped Strat either. I've seen people bashing Floyds for years but I've been using them for over 20 years without a problem.
