Advice on A Jackson Performer req...

Question:
I play a little guitar, but am not particularly well up on good/bad makes/models. A friend has offered me a Jackson Performer PS1, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these and can give me a rough ide of value. He's wanting £200, but I know it's been incredibly well looked after, as he's very anal about these things.

Answer:
One of my guitars is a PS1, and I've been living with it for a few months now and........ Firstly PS1s were made in both Japan and india....The giveaway is the serial number, I cant offhand remember but I think the number of digits is the giveaway...If it bothers you tell me how many digits the serial number has and I will compare it with mine. Mine is an Indian one, and the Jap ones are considerd better. The guitar is basically a take on a Strat. The neck on mine is fabulous...thin and fast, it plays really nice. Hardware is OK but nothing special...vintage type trem, control knobs tend to work loose easily, and the pots get dirty and scratchy quickly. Pickups are a mixed bag.....I really like the 2 single coils and you can get great Strat type noises out of them...lovely in betweeny out of phase sound too...nice. I dont like the humbucker much..It seems a bit weedy and microphonic, and it doesn't overdrive well, coupled with the fact that I just dont like the sound of it very much. I'm changing mine for something else, but of course sound is a subjective thing...you might love it. Build quality seems averageish, finish is OK. This guitar is really redeemed by me for its neck, which I love....to the point where I am gonna fit a decent humbucker, and maybe a wilkinson trem. At £200 I think its a tad on the pricey side to be honest....mine was in excellent nick and had been set up and cost me £140 including shipping...about £125 for the guitar. I'm completely happy with mine bearing in mind what I paid for it, but dont rush in....I've just picked up a Squier Affinity Tele for just over a hundred quid, and its a great guitar, and you can pick up a brand new Yamaha Pacifica 112 for about £150, a highly thought of budget guitar....same spec as the PS1 too.
