Question:
I have found a guitar teacher near my house.I am thinking of taking lessons from him,but i am not in to jazz and that is what he teaches,he has a BS degree in jazz guitar and he told me over the phone that he would teach me what i would like to learn to play and that is classic rock.I have been playing for about a year now mostly teaching myself,and i have reached a point where i need some instruction.He talks like he is very into theory and music reading,something i dont know much about.Anyone have any advice

If he is a Jazz guitar teacher that doesn't mean he doesn't know rock guitar. If he said he could teach you rock guitar you should give him a try. If he does like he says then you'll be okay. If he fails then just stop going to him for lessons. If he is a good player than he should know both rock and jazz.
