Left Handed Gibson Korina Explorer

Tagged As: Left Handed Gibson Guitar

Question:
I'm desperately trying to locate a left handed gibson korina explorer - pretty much any year as long as it's the full size explorer. Problem is, I've been searching for several weeks now, and I haven't found ANY left hand explorers period! What I was wondering was...is there such a beast? Has anyone ever seen one? or am I just wasting my time? Being a lefty, I've never actually played one of these instruments, but I can't get over the look - not to mention some of the tones I've heard come from these.

Answer:
Actually I've found a few lefty korina V's in my search. The V seems much more popular than the explorer for some reason. I personally don't find them very appealing however - just a matter of personal preference! But still ... has anyone ever actually SEEN a left handed explorer? I don't think my playing justifies having a custom shop guitar (my wallet can't justify it either!).

Would you like to...

I been looking for one too and it's hard. ESP makes a few explorer shaped guitars. I found them on guitarvillage.com that are left handed. But u can also get a custom from ESP or Gibson if you're rich!

Never seen a lefty Korina explorer. It was never a production item AFAIK. I have owned several lefty Gibson explorers from the 80's. They show up from time to time in Red, Black or White. They are the no pickguard model with dirty fingers pups.

Also, Epiphone made quite a few Korina lefty V's but not Gibson. There was also a run of Epiphone Korina explorers that show up now and then on ebay. I have owned a Tokai lefty Korina explorer that was pretty okay.

There are a lot of Hamer Standard Customs out there in Left Hand. They are not Korina, they are mahogany but are still a great Explorer style guitar. Try here http://www.southpawguitars.com/hamer.html

I too had been bitten with the Korina Explorer bug, and being a lefty was pretty much laughed at when I would tell people what I was looking for. Well, I can't vouch for Gibson, but Epiphone did indeed make a left handed korina finish 58 reissue - as I managed to find one after many years of searching, and now personally own one. So to answer your question...yeah they exist (Epi ones at least) that I can attest to.

Dude have I got a nice alternative for you to shop. If you go to southpawguitars.com and look at there Hammer explorer look alikes, they will blow away a gibson. If I could drop 2 grand on an explorer, one of the hammer's they have would be in my collection of lefty's. Good hunting for the real deal, but these Hammer's will suprise you!

Hi. I have owned a lefty Epiphone Korina Explorer and, yes, it was fantastic. I sold it for $200 more than I got it for and missed it immediately. There is an alternative!! I bought a white AGILE GHOST III from Rhondo (Rondo?) Music online. Kurt is Legit and you can count on an excellent guitar for only $300 - hahaha I put a JB and a '59 pickup combo in it and straplocks and it is now one of my stage guitars and it sounds and feels professional. Check out AGILE GUITARS by just putting that in the Google field or going to ebay and putting in: AGILE GHOST III...you should see left handed white ones and black ones. I hope this helps! ;D Marc San Jose Ca.

well youve got to look on ebay. they pop up every once on a while, but theyre usually above 800 dollars. but the price is kind of expected, you know left handed. if youre looknig for a knockoff, look for an sx or an agile. theyve got ones that look pretty much like explorers for like less than 400. korina, not so sure. esp's, if youre not in england theyre pretty hard to find. but i have found a left handed version of the wayne static signature at one website. probly guitarvillage, im not sure.

I know this is not a definite answer but Jlk guitars (a uk based left handed guitar builder) have a very nice scalloped explorer, and if you really, really want a korina one, then you could ask him about making you a korina one though this isn't ideal, as I assumme you live in america and the exchange rate is quite bad as the pound is worth a lot more than the dollar.

Yes, there is such a thing as a gibson lefty explorer. Geeze, must be about 20 years ago now, a buddy told me he saw one at a place called Spitzer's Music, in Hayward, California. I went down and looked at it. It was blood red. I didn't like the color so I decided not to buy it. Dumbass me! I have a V, Strat, and a Paul, but would kill to have an explorer. Dug them ever since I saw James Hetfield driving one! I was just cruising the net looking to see if I could locate one.

Yes, I have held a left handed gibson explorer in my hands. Damn me for not buying it. I didn't like the color, blood red. I saw it probably 20 years ago in a shot called Spitzer's Music, Hayward, California. Damn, why didn't I buy it. I would love to find one myself.

Left handed Gibson Explorer exist. I finally founded one on Ebay after three years of search. I bought it for 1700 $ US which is 600 $ more than the regular price for a right handed. Mine is red Ferrari and was made in 1985. Don't stop your search, if you're patient you'll find one, but it won't probably be a Korina and the color you want. Good luck

Yeah, I'm a lefty too and I'm looking for one. Here's a tip: Gibson/Epiphone Explorers in lefty? They don't exist. Just restring it, you still get full neck access.
