Learning Cords - Beginner Question

Tagged As: Beginner Guitar Cords

Question:
I'm learning the guitar and am wondering if learning cords is as difficult as I seem to be having? For example, I started with the C cord and find it *very* difficult to hold down the (proper) strings AND not let my 2nd & 3rd fingers touch the other strings thus muting them - is the normal learning curve? I can hardly imagine that one can quickly move around on the fret board play this cord and that cord when the exact placement of the fingers is so crucial - yet I know it can be done - is it just this hard to do or am I doing something wrong??

Answer:
Two things come to mind. You must practice and use the right technique or you need a better guitar. Learn a handful of chords and go play some nice guitars at your local shop. Now that you know how hard it can be to play them, you are qualified to see the differences between guitars. there are big differences, some can make you better. At the risk of sounding like I am trying to push my own products (which I am) Try Uncle Tim's First Year for learning and understanding chords and scales and everything else. www.unlcetim.com
