What to do I do about minor guitar damage?

Tagged As: Authorized Guitar Taylor

Question:
I have my first battle scar on my Taylor 810. The case accidently fell on the face of the guitar and nicked off a small portion of the gloss and a little bit of the wood. I believe it is called a case spike? Now, apart from my deep depression over that occurrence, I was wondering if I could get any guidance about what I can do about protecting the exposed wood. I was told Taylor uses a special type of lacquer. Any words of wisdom from the years of experience out there in Internet world?

Answer:
I would suggest getting your local guitar shop to give you the name of the local Factory Authorized Taylor Luthier. That person could examine the damage and give you good advice. If you're not comfortable w/ the Taylor guy/gal ask you local music shop for the local Authorized Martin or Gibson Luthier. You'll find these folks very talented and eager to help. Most of the official repair folks work on a bunch of different guitars and often can give you numerous options on how to fix things. The official gibson guy in Georgia is 770-982-0007; An official martin guy in Pennsylvania (southeast) is 610-449-6900. Either of these folks could give you at least an opinion. Sorry i don't know any official factory authorized Taylor folks.

Taylor does use a special laquer, tough to strip off. I wouldn't worry about repairing it, all guitars get a ding eventually. They should be played and not stored in a case all the time like many Taylor owners do. I think they are overpriced and the tops split easily, the action can be stiff but they do sound good
