Purpose of Vintage Guitar Shows?

Tagged As: Buy Guitar Vintage

Question:
But isn't the purpose of vintage guitar shows to give an opportunity for dealers to BUY vintage guitars rather than sell them? At least that has been my impression from the ones I've attended. Of course if there is a downturn in vintage guitar sales, it stands to reason that nobody is buying.

Answer:
I think it's for everyone to buy and sell guitars, amps, and effects, not just the dealers. They gotta sell what they buy after all if they want to make any money. IMO, the primary purpose of ANY guitar show is for the promoter of the show to make money. Those who display guitars (dealers) pay a fee to do so, and those who attend the show pay an admission fee. With regard to the dealers, they are typically not there to buy more vintage guitars, but to sell (for the highest price) those guitars they wish to get rid of. And, you will note, most dealers are opposed to buying ANYTHING at the highest price.
