Kramer Paul Dean guitar

Tagged As: Dean Guitar Vintage

Question:
Who is Paul Dean??? Seems like everyone's got a signature guitar these days.

Answer:
Paul is, of course, best known as the guitarist for the 80s Canadian rock band Loverboy; previously he also made his name with a couple of other Canadian bands like Scrubbaloe Caine (whose song When A Guitar Plays The Blues I just heard on an oldies program this afternoon, and it really smoked!) and Streetheart (which he played in alongside Loverboy drummer Matt Frenette), whose LP MEANWHILE BACK IN PARIS was a great party record for Canadians. He's also quite handy at designing and fixing guitars, as he learned quickly when a favorite Strat got broken and he learned to fix it himself. His designs were manufactured by Attila, Hondo and, later, Kramer - among other things, his designs featured a chambered body for added tone. The Paul Dean Kramer was first introduced in 1986 and continued until about 1988 (discontinued by Jan 1989). It has a Honduras Mahogany body, neck-through construction, Floyd Rose tremolo system, and Seymour Duncan pickups (JB in the bridge and two Vintage single coils). Retail price in Jan 1986 was $1049.00. Used prices in the States range from about $200 to $500, depending on the color and condition of it and if it has a case or not. I have a 1986 model with the flip-flop red finish on it. Eventhough I do not care for neck-throughs, this one is pretty decent and plays pretty well. If you get it, I hope you enjoy it. Kramer guitars are very good instruments for the money these days, and are constantly being overlooked because they are not IN equipment
