Question:
I have just won at auction a Framus guitar that was made in the sixty's. Does anyone have any information regarding these guitars it is a Framus 6 string JUMBO acoustic guitar, model number J197, serial number 04523, and is in EXCELLENT condition. Built in the mid-60's, it is all original and has a tone that only comes from this Franconiun Music Co guitar. Built in the heart of Bavaria, Germany- Framus guitars were built to outlast their owners. Unique to this style and maker are the large moustache bridge with adjustable saddle, zero fret, steel nut, multi-layer bolt on maple neck, rosewood fretboard, and inlaid position marker dots. The arched back provides a clear, distinct and dramatic sound that is not found on most acoustics. This guitar has a few dings and scratches you might expect on a thirty+ year old guitar, but no breaks or cracks. The -framus- logo on the headstock is fully intact; the painted logo on the pickguard has taken on that distinction that only experience can provide. The top is spruce with mahogany laminate back and sides. Anyone with any information about the history of the company or any interesting facts please let me know the deal.
Answer:
Ask over at rec.music.makers.guitar. acoustic I bought a Framus electric solid body guitar from a fellow GI in the mid sixties. It has a triangular shaped neck that is guaranteed to give you a hand cramp if you play it for a while. He paid $150 for it in Turkey. I paid him $15 for it when he was discharged. It is residing in my closet. I think I paid too much for it.
