Question:
Anyone know of a good vintage Gibson Guitar site? I saw a very attractive used Gibson in a store window last week, and under the guitar was a sign calling it an L5. However, the guitar looked like a hollow or semi-hollow Les Paul. The guitar was bound, from body and I think, to the head stock... I could have mistaken the sign/tag, but there wasn't an L5 anywhere else in the window... So I figured to look'er up... Any ideas on what this guitar might be and if so what your understanding around these gitz?
Answer:
Yes, there is a site with all that historical info - it's a collector's site... pat~animo~arc - something like that in the UR. Oh heck, someone here knows what I’m talking about. I can't find the URL, but it has most every vintage model. Not many new ones, though. What you saw was a Gibson L5s. This was a Norlin era solid body guitar introduced in about 1972. It was similar to the Les Paul recording model that came earlier: low impedance pickups, full scale neck, full binding, and a tuna-matic with expanded saddle travel. Later models has regular humbuckers. http://www.geocities.co.jp/MusicStar/3302/nakata/gazo/p3200043.jpg There are several of us here on the ng who are pretty much up on older Gibson models. Just say the word. I'm sure someone here can chime in with information you can use. http://www.provide.net/~cfh/gibson.html
