Question:
I know that Pantera is pretty popular, but how do you guys think Dimebag's new series of Washburn signature guitars will fare? I don't see Washburn selling all that many of these radically shaped guitars. This is not a shot at Dimebag by any means(I like his playing very much and Pantera is one hell of a metal band), but did Washburn make a mistake with this series? Keep in mind that these guitars are not cheap.
Answer:
I don't think Dimebag is that great a guitarist either. He relies mainly on effects to overhype what is a typical metal style of playing. The Problem is all of Pantera's pomp and preening makes their image media-friendly. Darrell really is an idiot. If you listen to him spout dude all the time, he really gives people the impression that metal guitarists are stupid spazzers (a term Darrell even *called* himself!!). I don't think the use of a signature model is really the best way to go for a guitarist anyway. It's always made me uneasy about signature models. Guitars are very different from each other, and it is a sign of one's uniqueness. I never really was comfortable playing a KIrk Hammett ESP in a store, I felt like I should be playing Metallica riffs on it anyway. Darrell is a good player, but he's fills the metal guitarist stereotype too much. You're right. How many people would buy a guitar with such a unique shape as the Dean style? Only idiots who worship Darrell I guess. By the way, how is Washburn legally able to *copy* the design of the Dean? That *is* Dean's trademark body desigh, isn't it?
