Dimebag's Washburn series

Tagged As: Dimebag Washburn Guitar

Question:
I know that Pantera is pretty popular, but how do you guys think Dimebag's new series of Washburn signature guitars will fare? I don't see Washburn selling all that many of these radically shaped guitars. This is not a shot at Dimebag by any means(I like his playing very much and Pantera is one hell of a metal band), but did Washburn make a mistake with this series? Keep in mind that these guitars are not cheap.

Answer:
I don't think Dimebag is that great a guitarist either. He relies mainly on effects to overhype what is a typical metal style of playing. The Problem is all of Pantera's pomp and preening makes their image media-friendly. Darrell really is an idiot. If you listen to him spout dude all the time, he really gives people the impression that metal guitarists are stupid spazzers (a term Darrell even *called* himself!!). I don't think the use of a signature model is really the best way to go for a guitarist anyway. It's always made me uneasy about signature models. Guitars are very different from each other, and it is a sign of one's uniqueness. I never really was comfortable playing a KIrk Hammett ESP in a store, I felt like I should be playing Metallica riffs on it anyway. Darrell is a good player, but he's fills the metal guitarist stereotype too much. You're right. How many people would buy a guitar with such a unique shape as the Dean style? Only idiots who worship Darrell I guess. By the way, how is Washburn legally able to *copy* the design of the Dean? That *is* Dean's trademark body desigh, isn't it?

he hides behind effects????? do you have a clue? which effects? his wah, or his mxr phaser? wow thats alot of effects to hide behind. Dime has influenced a generation of players, and can be directly linked to saving metals ass in the ninties. if not for cowboys from hell, grunge could have completely eradicated metal. you should do some research on topics before you spout off, not only was dime an amazing player, but he was also the kindest person in the world. and you know what? he was a spazz. that is what made Dimebag the person he was. most of the guitar players that i have had the fortune to meet are spazzes in one way or another.

Hmmm. You think he has no talent huh? But I can bet that you think Steve Vai has talent. Well have a look at the interview with Steve Vai in Guitar World magazine, December 05. Steve Vai said that there are many guitar players with faster, cleaner chops then his. And when asked who, he said "Yngwie is one, Dimebag is another." As for he only sounds good because he uses a lot of effects, are you kidding me? http://guitargeek.com/rigview/415/ Yeah thats sooo many effects. Do your homework next time. Maybe you wouldn't sound like an unimformed lil kid. Also, if you died, do you think Eddie Van Halen would put his axe from "Van Halen II" in your casket? I think not, but he did for Dime. Dimebag is a well respected guitar player, by critics & fans alike.

Wow, brutal comments. I don't really like Dimes playing that much either. The new Washburns are not that nice. I have an original Dean (1981) Z model I recently purchased. MUCH different from the Wash models. My brother in law forked over a grand for one and returned it for 2 others before he found one that would work for him. Guitar center junk, they are the worst at pawning off questionable instruments and not offering a return policy except for 'store credit'. Anyway, the original has a very different neck radius, more rounded and not nearly as flat. Very easy on the hands.

What a couple of jack asses! the washburn ml sold like ice water in hell! i have the black jack ml, its the most awesome instrument ive ever played. No, not cuz its a Dimebag signature model, but cuz the playability is out of this world, and it has a tone that i cannot find in any other guitar. R.I.P. Dimebag, I luv u bro! You are the best guitar player the world has ever seen.
