Question:
Just visited a website, http:/www.charanga.com, advertising a CD-ROM for basic guitar instruction, called Guitar Coach. I'm a guitar beginner (have played some other string & brass instruments) and am looking for a place to start. Anyone tried Guitar Coach, or have other suggestions for self-instruction tools?
Answer:
I'm about a year ahead of you in self-instruction. The only contact that I had with an instructor was with a 60-ish lady who strongly recommended staying away from tablature (I think because once you get hooked, it is hard to go back to reading music). With this in mind, I started with the classic Mel Bay series (Modern Guitar Method, Grade 1 et seq.). I seem to be sticking with it, so it hasn't beaten guitar interest out of me yet, plus I can follow some of the tunes in Acoustic Guitar magazine without looking at the tab anymore. I just purchased Guitar 101 (G-VOX poduct) It seems OK, but I have a long way to go. Let me know if you come across anything good, and I will do the same.
