Randall Amplifiers/Elliot Randall question...

Tagged As: Randall Amplifiers

Question:
I always assumed that guitarist Elliot Randall created Randall Amps, but after looking on their site, there's nothing mentioned about Mr. Randall. Was he or wasn't he?

Answer:
To the best of my knowledge, the Randall name comes from the name of a gentleman who worked for Fender Electric Instrument sales (I may not have that name entirely correct)back when they were the company that marketed Leo Fender's products.I think the guy's name was Don Randall but am not sure without doing further research. The numerous Fender reference/history books would have the information. He was also involved in the sale of Fender to CBS in the mid 60s.I imagine he probably worked for CBS owned Fender for some time and then started his own company. No connection to fine NY guitarist Elliot Randall.

Yes it was Don Randall that started Randall Amplifires. Even before he left CBS after the sale of Fender. This company has been in business sinc November 1, 1964 and Don Randall was our First Fender Rep, in 1965, until 1969 when he took an uppper management position with CBS. We Was also a Randall dealer from 1970 to 1974 when Randall decided to go mass market and open market, mainly to up income and cash flow, If I remember right, Don left management of Randall in about later part of 73. When companies leave dealership and go mass market it in general hurts the product name, company does good for a few years because of major influx of money, but product reputation suffers a major blow. one of the few exceptitions I have seen of this rule is Yamaha. The only reason I can see for it is because if Yamaha's full range of quality control, even though I am Not A Major fan of Yamaha or Fender either one.
