Question:
let me preface this with: I like tube audio amps I believe tube guitar amps are far superior to solid state guitar amps, and modeling guitar amps (computer on board) are total crap I like tube hi-fi amps and believe in many cases they are superior to solidd state. But...this has got to be the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
Answer:
Peavey electronics determined that the great sound of tube guitar amps stemmed from the Power amp stage which generally used 2 or 4 6L6GC power tubes (you remember - the ones that glowed with a blue flame and often got microphonic so that you'd have to tap the amp to get them to quit vibrating) in push-pull configuration to drive the speakers. Randall who later joined with Fender came up with the idea I believe (Leo made the guitars while Randall made the amps). With that in mind, they came up with a hybrid of sorts - everything solid state, except for the power stage. It had the reliability of solid state, but the warm sound of guitar overtones generated by the tubes... Maybe this is a Peavey Motherboard under the surface
