Question:
I am seriously considering buying and learning Acoustic Guitar. I have always been a little interested. One of my good friends has always played guitar, and at parties it's always request hour for songs that we know. He plays them, and I wanna too. I understand that he has years of experience on me, thats why I'm gonna ask this: Being a definately first-timer/beginner, if I practice (online lessons, messing around) for approx 2 hrs a day, how long will it take me to be able to play a few songs well? I mean simple songs like some Beatles and Nirvana. I know some of you will probably think this is a dumb post, and rip it up, but I need to ask someone before I make the investment? If I slowly start to learn scales, doing online lessons and practicing, approximately how long will it take me at 2 hrs/ day? Some of you must be music teachers, and I am expecting to hear the everyone learns at a different pace answer, so just in general. What are your opinions.
Answer:
At two hours a day (and I recommend you split it into four half-hour sessions, or better yet, six seperate 20-minutes sessions) if you have a knack for guitar and an ear for music, you can be playing basic Beatles songs well in three months. If not-so-much either of the above two things, you can be playing basic Beatles songs well in about a year. You wanted rough figures, and those would be my rough figures. Don't let that deter you for a moment. Either way, a year from now (or less) you'll be able to play some basic Beatles songs - maybe much more. God willing, you'll be a year older a year from now - why not be a year older and be able to play some guitar (notwithstanding the early frustration you'll experience?)
