Question:
Has anybody heard of or had any experience with Power Acoustic Amplifiers. The specs on these amplifiers looks decent and they look spectacular. So if anyone can help I would really appreciate it.
Answer:
I had a pair of Power Acoustic Ch2-300's About Six years ago. I bought them the summer after high school and before college. Right after I bought my first car. The reason I bought them was 1. They were cheap 2. I did not really know that much about car audio. 3. At 18 years old my measure of a good system was the spl it could achieve. They are probably one of the better cheap amps, at least judging by the abuse they withstood. I had one running at 2ohms stereo into 4 JBL 12's and the other one running into 2 pairs of 4ohm drivers and a set of 8 ohm drivers in stereo, and they survived a year and a half of this abuse. Of course take their rated power, divide by two and then double their distortion figure and you have their true specs. I mean they served their purpose, they will play all day, every day, they will not sound that good, or make anywhere near what they claim, but don't sound that bad when not pushed to extremes. They also have a tendeny to distort rather abruptly and harshly leading to a premature end to a few speakers. If you are serious about going high end, or competing, forget about them, no matter how good they look. Otherwise, you way want to consider them. Personally, I use rockford amps now. Also had a granite series soundstream (the repacement for these power acoustik amps ) which impressed me at the time. it's all a matter of what you are used to, what you want to do with and expect from your amps, and your system that will determine wether you will be happy with them or not.
