Fernandes Nomad - good beginner guitar?

Tagged As: Good Beginner Guitar

Question:
I was wondering if this might be a good beginner guitar? My requirements were: electric,

Answer:
They're okay as a second or third guitar for travel purposes, etc., but I would recommend a normal sized guitar as a primary guitar for learning how to play. As always, I recommend looking at godin guitars...a very good buy on the used market and better quality (IMHO) than mexifenders or (shudder) ibanez. Available used in your price range for a godin sd or sdxt.

The Nomad is a good beginning guitar for an 11 to 14 year old. It stays in tune, the knee cut-out provides stability (when seated), the built-in speaker isn't overpowering, and it sounds great when plugged in. It isn't exactly inexpensive, but if the kid doesn't stick with guitar it makes a great second or third guitar. That's a better option than getting a kid an untunable guitar that's only other use is in the fireplace.
