Upright bass amp

Tagged As: Upright Bass Amp

Question:
Anyone know of a good bass amp for upright, i use a bow and fingers, and use the entire range of the bass.

Answer:
Have you heard the SWR Workingman series (10, 12, 15)? They have a very good low-end response for the upright (double) bass I use a Gallien Krueger amp. I also got the padded bag w/ shoulder strap. It's great; small, light weight and powerful! The MB150 bass combo packs 150 watts of power, a heavy duty 12 speaker, and a host of professional features into a rugged, all-metal enclosure that weighs only 24 lbs., and fits into an overhead luggage compartment. You can use the MB150 as is for small gigs, rehearsal, or in the studio. Mount it on a stand as a personal monitor and use the direct outs to feed a recording/P.A. console. Playing larger venues? Switch off the MB150's internal speaker, plug the amp into a pair of 8 ohm cabinets, and you're ready to rock and roll! Only the MB150 offers this kind of versatility in a compact package. I've used SWR Wokingman's 10 with my upright (I'm really a Walter Woods guy) and while I didn't care fr it that much in the music store in sounds pretty damn good on the gig (especially in terms of cutting through the sound of the band) also has great features XLR output, and a design that allows you to lay the upright bass on the amp on its side (a lip on the front) which is really cool however> nothing will beat the sound of my Walter Woods for the upright. Also, I still love my ancient Poly Tone Mini Brute 12 (a friggin guitar amp!) which sounds real good with my upright (sounds like crap with my electric) and SO easy to lug around.
