Question:
I recently purchased a used Fender Twin-Amp, 100w, 2 channels, 2x12 eminence speakers. For some reason, Fender suddenly discontinued the model after having it out for a short period of time. Does anyone know anything about this particular amp that I should know? Is it unreliable? Does it blow up tubes?
Answer:
It sounds to me as though you have an Evil Twin version of the Twin Reverb family. It was not made for a short time, but in its final version from '94 to '01, with relatively slight variations in the preceeding and succeeding models. There's nothing wrong with this amp other than it weighing close to eighty pounds. It's a rugged, very serious Professional Series amp with great capabilities. It's definitely not a toy. I have a March '01 Evil Twin from the last batch, which I purchased at Guitar Center on Labor Day for $599 new. Fender goes through a huge number of amp models. There's nothing wrong with them, it's just Fender's idea of marketing. The website for the Evil Twin has just been taken off Fender's site. The new version of the Twin Amp is essentially the same as the Evil Twin with the exception of having a tube tremolo circuit added.
