Question:
I'm currently considering of pruchasing a used Fender combo, and was wondering what tone-difference there is between a Twin reverb and a Super reverb?? My main overdrives is a Chandler tubedriver and a SD-1, which amp would complement these pedals the best and my Tokai Strat?? Furthermore is there a guide where you can see the difference between the range of old Fender amps?? Last if the price-range is approx. the same for the two amps, which one should I get
Answer:
The classic Twin was 2 12 speakers, 90 watts RMS. The Super was 4 10 speakers, 50 watts RMS. The sound of the Twin (clean) was great; the sound of the Super (clean) was FANTASTIC (best I ever heard). The Twin is hernia-heavy; the Super weighs about 55 lbs/25 kilos IIRC. Either one - little to choose between them in that regard. Play through both and YOU decide - we can't decide that for you. I was playing in a 3-piece band in '68 and my friend, Tony, was playing in a 6-piece band (The Barons) with a super. We were Ledge and had drums (no mics), B-3 through a Leslie with key bass through a Kustom bass amp and me. I was playing a 335 and Tony played a strat. I really did set the twin to vol.7,treb.7,mid.10,bass.10 and the volume was balanced with the rest of the band. We actually used a Silvertone head with 2 Silvertone 2x12 cabinets for a PA. To me, the twin was full, lots of highs, mids, and lows. The super was more highs and mids but not a lot of lows
