Adding an effects loop to a vintage fender amp

Tagged As: Vintage Fender Amp

Question:
I have a '64 Blackface Fender Vibrolux amp which I would like to add an effects send/return loop for interfacing to digital delay, distortion, chorus, etc. Has anyone on the net successfully accomplished this? Does anyone know of any books which might address how to do this? Has Fender Frontline magazine ever published how to do this?

Answer:
I do not recommend such a foolish mod to a valuable Vintage pre-CBS amp. You'll kill the resale value. If you want an effects loop, buy a new amp. Torres is a butcher, beware. He specializes in turning Fenders into Frankenstiens. I'm sure you could easily sell the Vibrolux for between $900 and $1000, which would finance your new modern amp. Leave the vintage Fenders stock.

You didn't clarify which Fender Vibrolux model to which you are referring. There were two blackface Fender Vibroluxes in the year 1964.There was the Fender Vibrolux 1x12 combo and there was the Fender Vibrolux Reverb 2x10 combo. If your amp is the Vibrolux blackface 1x12 combo, then you own the rarest standard production blackface amp that Fender ever made, worth mega-bucks.
