Kustom Amplifiers???

Tagged As: Kustom Amplifiers

Question:
Does anyone have any experience with old Kustom amps (the kind with the roll and pleat sparkle vinyl covers)??? I'm thinking of purchasing a cabinet that I've found and trying to find a matching head.

Answer:
They are good amplifiers, a bit pricey these days because they are now collectible. By today's stamndards they are a bit on the sterile side in terms of tone, have limited EQ facilities and the speaker cabs have that, well, big fat but somewhat indistinct tone from the 60s (i.e. not a slapper's amp!). If you want a retro sort of sound, they are reliable and of course look super cool. I quite like the kustom amp i play though in one of my 2 bands its a black tuck and roll 200watt guitar amp, but the speakers were blown and replaced with speakers meant for car systems before you scoff me, i have to say that i actually like the sound and it *works* in this band The sound is nice and punchy with a good snap to it there is one downside/upside, my bass has actives and it distorts if i turn it up halfway, but thats no problem cause i can just turn the amp up more if i dont want that damn solidstate distortion, but it comes in handy when needed. Anyways, its better than the peavey15 combo i play through in my other band
