Question:
wondering if anyone is familiar with a Kustom II. It is solid state and has a head about 60 watts with a closed back cabinet with a 15 speaker. It is at a local shop for $150.00. Is this a good all around amp and what kind of speaker came with it?
Answer:
It depends on how old it is. The old tube models were excellent but fairly extinct these days. The early solid state models ( high wattage over 60 watts) were ok so long as you kept it clean (no distortion). They were best noted as bass amps. They did come with 15 speakers. Some were good and some were not. The easiest way to tell is by the size of the magnet on the speaker. In this case bigger is better. The Kustom II series came after the famous roll-n-tuck finish sets which first appeared in the late 60's. I would date the amp from around the mid-70's or later. I had a Kustom IIB head which I used with a custom-built cabinet with a 15 inch JBL speaker which was wicked. The amp, if it is in good enough condition, should be OK. The speakers that Kustom used to use were Jensens.
