Question:
A local guy is selling a Kustom II 60 watt bass amp cheap. Late 70's / early 80's. It's kind of beat up, but works well. The speaker is ripped, but I have a 15 inch black widow speaker from a Peavey bass amp I had years ago, that I can install in place of the old speaker. Has anyone played this Kustom amp, or any older Kustom amp? Any advice or comments?
Answer:
Actually, Kustom was not low end gear, in the beginning. They even brought out a less expensive line later, sans the rolled and tucked covering, named Kasino. I gigged several years with Kustom bass amps and PA systems. Not to mention a couple of Kasino powered 4x10 or 4x12 guitar enclosures (I forget which) for PA boosters. I never had a failure. The bass amps were fine for the times, when the dream of every electric bassist was to be mistaken for a very loud double bass. Compared to Fender and Ampeg, Kustom gear was reasonably priced, but Kustom was less expensive to make solid-state equipment. Fender had no such creatures in their line up in those days.
