Question:
A local dealer sells Laney amps. I must say that I am not very knowlegable when it comes to amps. I am looking at the RBW 100. It is 65 watts that has a 12 inch speaker with a horn tweetrer, it is a wedge style speaker. They have it on sale for 300.00. I am also thinking about the hardcore series amps. Which is out of stock. All I know on these amps are that they are British made. Another option is a peavey minx or a basic 112. Any advice on the Laney quality will be appericated
Answer:
Laney have been around for ages in the UK. probably more famous for guitar amps than bass (Black Sabbath used to swear by them and more recently Steve Vai was involved with them for a while). They tend to be thought of as good workhorse amps. Not as many frills as some but pretty heardwearing and solid. I have a 300W head that's seen plenty of service and has never let me down - it's now in semi-retirement having been replaced by an SWR but it still goes to every gig just in case. The Richter series is quite new so I haven't heard that much about them. The DB series is nicer with a tube or solid state pre-amp etc. A lot of Laney's are very similar to Trace Elliot in features given that Trace are the major UK bass amp company.
