Question:
I'm new at buying a guitar amp, and hoping to get some good advice here. I currently play with a small 35watt Peavey and while it's OK, I'm looking for more. I play 60s and 70s rock with SOME country-rock. I have always heard that Marshall Amps are the only way to go for this type of music, and am looking at purchasing a half-stack. I've found the MG100HDFX Marshall head, and can couple that with a an MG412 Slant Cab for around $750.00 at musiciansfriend.com. Is this a good choice for the type of music I like? Will this package handle gigs fine?
Answer:
Unless your one of those guys who has to have everything new, I suggest you either save money and buy that amp or one like it, used. Or buy a lower end Marshall tube amp. You can buy JCM 800 50W channel switching model for arounf 5-$600. Why haul a cheap particle board 4x12 with G12L-35 that have 93dbl ?? Get a 2 x12 from Avatarspeakers.com with Celestion Classic Lead 80 's which can be very clean or very brutal sounding when pushed. I think your still around 7-$800. What your looking at is a rich kids first Marshall. Don't get sucked into paying retail for new Marshall stuff. Its made to do thrash and very high gain stuff.
