Question:
We all look for the perfect sound and combination of guitars and amps. I have tried it all, or at least most of it. Since I play mostly rock and blues I have a Marshall stack and an American Fat Telecaster (humbucking at neck position). It distorts well and has a very hamonic content. I have never tried using this combination for clean sounding jazz till last Friday. With the guitar set at full humbucking only and the tone at almost full bass, amp set at full bass, full presence, mid treble and reverb ar 6 it sounded beautiful. Smooth and clean. If you didn't see what I was using you would swear that I was using a nice archtop with an Evans amp. People think Telecasters are just country twang machines and that Marshall amps are for distortion only. The only effect I use is an Electro Harmonic LPB-2 Power Booster set at 2 or 3. It just gives me a little stronger signal Any comment?
Answer:
I have a US fat telecaster, too, and I play through a Uni-Vibe stereo chorus into a Blues Jr and a Deluxe 90. (Chorus is on very low.) I get a very nice jazz sound out of this setup, yet I can get nice overdrive for blues, when I need it. Although from time to time I'm tempted to buy another guitar, I don't know that the tele wouldn't remain my #1 guitar!!
