Heaviest Marshall Head or Mesa boogie Head?

Tagged As: Mesa Boogie Heads

Question:
I am going to be upgradin to a half stack, preferrably marshall or mesa boogie, and being that there are just so many makes and models of heads in both brands I was hoping some of you have a few good amps I could check out? I play really heavy, tune down a whole step, etc.. looking for a good amp to give me heavy coalchamber type sound if would. Any idea?

Answer:
If you're looking for a dark sound with a lot of bottomend, mesa is the ONLY way to go. Marshall is just too midrangy. If you got the dough i'd suggest getting a triaxis preamplifier, a 50/50 or a 2:90 poweramp and a slanted rectocab. This setup really rocks! It is a bit expensive though. If you cant afford the triaxis in combination with a poweramp, buy a rectifier (preferably the dual rectifier) instead. If you still cant afford it (mesa stuff is excellent but way to expensive for a student) Then go with a marshall and start saving up for the real thing!

I have a Mesa Studio Pre and a 50/50 power, each piece cost me $450, which is a lot less then a Triaxis and kicks serious ass.
