Question:
I need some help here.. Can M/B Studio 22+ do metal? Not extreme high-gain, but something like Tool, Metallica, that kind of sound.. can it be done? Mainly for rhythm playing Actually, all opinions considering these amps
Answer:
I had a Studio 22+ without graphic way back when they had only been out a couple of years. It might have the right tone for a metal player, depending on your personal tastes, but it may or not have the needed volume for live venue gigging. Probably not, since most metal drummers are notoriously heavy handed. So... you might have to mike it up and run it in the monitors just to hear yourself. They're really pretty loud for their power rating, but a loud drummer can bury one. I didn't like mine; because it was kind of a one trick (metal) pony, and I needed something more versatile for covering several different music styles. I actually abandoned the Mesa mid-gig to play on my old backup Peavey Bandit!!! That's right, the old SS Bandit was able to cover more sonic ground easier than the (then) semi-boutique Boogie... I sold it in disgust a couple of weeks later, and got a Silver Face Fender Super Reverb, and was quite happy with it. I'm not saying the 22+ was a bad amp. It sounded hella good at rehearsal in the basement! It just wasn't what I needed at that time for gigging.
