Question:
Am I the only guitar player here, who's just started learning the Harmonica to add some more blues to his life, and having been used to carp at near every guitar tune ever written being tabbed on-line can't quite work-out. Why there is such a shortage of harp tab? What gives? Why do people expect us to pay for the only TAB that there does seem to be? I'm not talking about 7 or 8 tunes scattered here or their, but a good collection!
Answer:
I play the blues with a guitar and I'm learning the harp as well. Much of the Blues on the harp is 3rd position cross harp. There's not much in the means of tab for this style of music. You learn a few riffs, the up and down riff, good morning riff, down and out riff ect. then just ad lib them into the songs. Listen to a lot of Muddy Waters, Paul Butterfield, Big Walter Horton, Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, and Blues Traveler among others and attempt to play along. It won't take long before you'll be surprising yourself, and others. Play along in the car on the way to work, play when ever, play at work during breaks, make up your own solo riffs......... I guess what I'm saying is don't let the lack of Blues Harp tab detour you. It's really not the same as guitar tab. You get it close on the harp and it will sound good, not the same as the guitar. Have fun.
