Question:
I have been looking at all of the local and internet music stores I know of for mini electric guitar's like the mini strat Fender (Squier) makes. All I have been able to find so far is the Fender model. Does anyone know if any other reputable manufacturers make a mini electric of quality similar to the Squier mini. Model number if known would help. The Squier is fine but I just would like to at least see if there is anything else out there like maybe a mini Epiphone LP copy or something that is worth looking at. It will be for my kids aged 8 and 5. Any help?
Answer:
Epiphone in fact makes a mini-Les Paul and a mini-Flying V. They're WAY mini -- about (true) 3/4 scale. I own the V, not a bad little guitar if you tune it up a fourth to A. (OK, so I also replaced the machine heads, the bridge, and the pickup, and did a full setup on it... but it wasn't bad to start with.) Scale is about 19. Several other companies make similar instruments. I also have a mini-Strat made by Lotus (on which I performed similar modifications for my own purposes), and I've seen others as well. Note that these tend to be less wonderful in terms of quality. (But I should add that the Squier mini-Strat I saw was of absolutely horrible quality.) You don't mention where you are, but the Starving Musician in the south San Francisco Bay area has some mini-Strats in stock. They're online at www.starvingmusician.com ...
