Retubing Peavey 5150 amp question

Tagged As: Peavey 5150 Amp

Question:
my 5150 amp is about 2 yrs old and I think it's time to retube. Any brand suggestions? I think it requires 5 12AX7's and 4 6L6's. I was wondering what brand should best fit the preamp section of the amp and the output stage. I would also want to know the cost. I heard that Sovtek makes the best 12AX7's at least for this amp and Groovetubes makes the best 6L6's. so any input??

Answer:
Groovetubes doesn't make anything at all. Actually, the BEST 6L6 tubes you can buy would be New Old Stock tubes, question would be are they the right tubes for you, because you might prefer the sound of new tubes. Same goes with 12ax7 tubes. Both these guys know tubes http://www.nebsnow.com/LordValve and http://www.triodeelectronics.com , and neither one will charge you extra money to have their names silkscreened to tubes that someone else manufactured like Groovetubes does. Call them up and talk about what you're looking for.
