Question:
I am looking for a new amp cause the one I have doesn't cut it for gigs. Its drowned out. I am looking at a peavey 5150 combo (60 watts 2x12). But being only 60 watts would it be loud enough for gigs? I am also looking at a Randall RG100 (100 watts) with a RA412JB cab (4x12) cause I LOVE dimebags tone and that is what he uses. I imagine the Randall would be allot louder. But I have never played through either as there are no music shops worth shit anywhere near here. So I would like to know from somebody who has experience with one or both of them... Any help ?
Answer:
Do not get the Randall unless you plan on buying more than one. Yeah, Dimebag uses them but even he says that if you turn them up too loud, they start to sound thin and cheesy. Plus, 60 tube watts are probably louder than 100 solid state watts. I own a 60 watt 2X12 Peavey Ultra combo (which, IMHO, murders the 5150 in tone and versatility. Its got three channels with seperate clean and OD EQs) and it is more than loud enough for any gig (never had the master past 6). As far as the Randalls go, I had a RG-100H 1/2 stack for about two months and hated. Dimebag is processing his sound so much its not even funny. You are NOT hearing a RG-100 on TGSTK, VDOP, or FBD.... thats a boogie v-twin, a TON of Digitech and Lexicon processors and a little of the RG-100H.... it by itself sucks!
