Peavey 5150 Head through Marshall 1960cab

Tagged As: Peavey 5150 Head

Question:
I'm interested in replacing my current valvestate 100W head with a Peavey 5150 head, however, I'm hoping to spare some expense and not replace the 1960 slant marshall cab as well. Anyone have any ideas/experience on how this combination would sound?

Answer:
I played my 5150 through three diff cabs. A Marshall 1960 (straight) and it sounded way too bright for me. However, it probably would have been what I wanted in High School. I tried it through a Randall 4x12 and it sounded pretty good. But the best was through a crappy Peavey bass cabinet. It is loaded with 1 EV 15 and two Peavey 8. Add a little Quadraverb and I had the best sound. Definitely buy the 5150 head and NOT the combo, so you can try out diff combinations.
