Question:
Starting yet another cover band and just getting some ideas on the amp to use. Currently I have a jcm800, which does sound great, although I cant get that saturated distortion sound that I want (could use a pedal, but...) I was thinking about the Peavey 5150 2x12. I really do not want a half-stack at all, and will avoid that to all ends. I usually am just a one channel guy, rolling off the volume to get a cleaner sound, and hopefully having a lead boost to kick in for the leads. I usually use a wah-wah, and maybe a delay pedal or something. I really would like to get rid of the tube screamer in the mix. We will be mainly doing, classic rock, new rock, and southern rock... Any experience or suggestions? Should I just get the 5150? maybe a Marshall? I really am on a budget as well, so that is adding fuel to the problem. In the past, I would just buy an amp and if It didnt work, I would sell it or keep it for trades later.
Answer:
go with something like the Peavey Classic 50 - has a clean channel and distortion channel, then add an overdrive pedal to goose the distortion channel. if you're considering the 6505 (formerly the 5150 combo), why not look at the Peavey JSX combo that was released recently. Satch had that one designed so it could mimic his Classic 50's clean channel, plus have some really toneful high gain sounds.
