Question:
I need some advice. The Peavey Basic 60 (and Basic 112) have jacks named Preamp Out and Power Amp In. The manual says that they are provided for in line patching of effects devices but the manual also contains a note that any effects used in the loop must be capable of receiving 1 volt input and providing 1 volt output in order to properly drive the power amp. Does anyone know what this means? Can I put my pedal effects into this loop or will I bust something?
Answer:
I've had a bunch of Peavey gear with those jacks and I've plugged them into everything from the high impedance inputs of a P.A. board, another amp, and all manner of effects pedals and rack gear. No damage has resulted but some devices are more sensitive than others and the level mis-match may not sound good if the device is intended to see less voltage at its input. Some effects don't like to be driven with more than 100 - 300mv (1/10 - 3/10 volt). Start by setting your preamp (channel) volume very low this keeps the preamp out signal down and that can help
