Question:
I need to know more about a Gibson House of blues edition guitar. It is a semi hollow electric with contoured body and f-holes. I have a chance to buy it from a relative and we are trying to find out what it is worth. (He won it in a contest.) Anyway, it does not appear on the Gibson web site or anywhere else I can find so I am figuring that it is really another model of Gibson with just a new sticker on it for the house of blues. Does anybody know what model Gibson this really is? What is it closest to? What is a fair price for it?
Answer:
When your relative won it, whoever was running the contest should have given him something telling what the list price or some such was, so he/she could pay income taxes on it. You allways here the disclaimer at the end of the contest rules that say you're responsible for the taxes. You did know you're supposed to declare it as income and pay taxes on it didn't you? If you have the suggested retail or list price, 60 - 65% is probably a reasonable street price (what a dealer would actually sell it for).
