Question:
I was looking through an old Vox brochure. I had forgotten that Vox had quite a few different guitars at one time. Anyone have one of the 'Mark' guitars or one of the 'Phantoms'? How about the Phantom Xll Stereo V246, the Guitar Organ: V251 or Guitar Organ Bass: V256, or the Mando Guitar: V257?
Answer:
I used to use a Vox Phantom VI in a band a few years or so back. It had built in fuzz and tremelo and some tone boost switches which was pretty cool (active electronics!). It was also probably the worst guitar I ever played (no sustain and a couple of the frets had to be avoided as they were too low). Unfortunately, the owner refused to let me take it to a guitar repairer for a refret and a setup which I am sure would have improved things considerably. He also later bought a 335 shaped semi-acoustic Vox with all the electronics on-boardd plus a wah-wah which was operated by a palm lever. Someone else had one of the teardrop shaped organ guitars. It had some of the circuits from a Vox Continental organ for those cheesy sounds, but you had to play it with a special metal pick, attached to a wire which you plugged into the front of the guitar - very wacky.
