Question:
I'm looking to buy an amp for home use (I can never see me using it anywhere else) and after being totally confused by the myriad of brands and what they do hope someone can give me a few pointers. The guitar is american series strat. I like all types of music Rock/blues/ some metal/folk but not jazz. I thought about the valvetronix AD15VT. Would this be suitable. Willing to extend budget for the 30 model but not sure why I should.
Answer:
The VOX AD15VT is a nice hybrid amp. By hybrid, I mean it has tube warmth with a SS modeling section. I have played one, they sound great. I have the AD30, however, since it includes an extra control - a 'speaker load' or some such, that lets you play the amp at full gain without blowing your ears out. The AD15 can be exceptionally loud if you want the gain cranked, and there's nothing you can do about it.
