Question:
I have been 'noodling' on steel string for a couple of years now. I always had a desire to play classical guitar but felt too intimidated to act upon that desire. Intimidated or not, I finally decided to act. I have secured the services of an excellent teacher and purchased a good student classical guitar. My teacher is Randy Wimer in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Perhaps some of you that have been around here for a while will recognize the name. I guess he used to be a regular on here a few years back. For years I told myself that I was too old and it was too late to start now. I finally decided the years were going to pass anyway. I might as well be doing something constructive and rewarding with those years. They say (whoever 'they' are) that's its never too late. I hope to prove them right. I look forward to a long and rewarding journey with the classical guitar and RMCG.
Answer:
I stated classical guitar lessons at the age of fifty-eight (two years ago) and I feel I am making progress. I'm really only an egg. I've been fooling around with guitar for many years, but not really getting too far?..Not enough discipline, I guess. A former colleague of mine (I used to be an engineer) encouraged me to take lessons. He's about 6' 4 tall with three silver earrings if you can imagine. He's a saxophone player and was taking lessons at the local music store. He had been telling me about a famous guitar teacher at this local music store, but also told me that the teacher was booked solid and had no openings for new students. I got an e-mail from my friend about two years ago telling me that the teacher now had an opening for a new student and that, since he knew I was too cheap to pay for lessons, he would pay for the first two lessons. I wrote him back and asked: how about the first three lessons? About two weeks later, I got a gift certificate in the mail for $60.00 (cost of three lessons) with ABSOLUTELY NO CASH REFUND written on the certificate.
