stringing a classical guitar - help!

Tagged As: Classical Guitar Tune

Question:
Anyone have a link to a VIDEO clip (or CLEAR pictures) explaining how to put new strings on a classical guitar? I think i can put the ends on properly (where you tie it) but i just cant get the part at the top right - are you meant to use ALL the string or can you cut it? whats the ideal a,ount to have etc etc? i keep breaking strings but i cant get them into tune (electric tuner - sometimes they get into tune but then out of tune - i assume this is because i cant get the strings on properly!)

Answer:
I play classical guitar and change my strings often. The guitar will NOT stay in tune for even a few minutes after new strings are installed. The nylon strings will continue stretching for probably a week. I install new strings - tune then play for about ten minutes. Re-tune play again, re-tune play again...... One of the pros of this is that you will get much better at tuning your guitar! Another word of advice, when you loop the strings at the bridge end, I'd reconmend making 3 loops insead of 2 on the nylon strings. Often times, the high-E will slip if just looped twice.
