Lifehouse Guitar Chord

Question:

What do youy guys prefer and why? When learning a new song do you guys learn the melody lines? And when playing solo hard hard is it switching between the two?

Answer:

I play in bands that usually have two guitars. We each learn to play our parts to a song. One song I am doing has me covering 2 guitar parts while the other player pretty much sticks to playing chords and singing (Hanging by a moment...Lifehouse). Switching between solos and chords is not difficult if you practice doing it. You have to put in the time to play songs right. In this particular song the lead guitar is harmonizing with the vocal on the chorus. So I do have to know the melody. As for which do I prefer lead or rhythm? It doesn't matter. Although I feel that rhythm is most important. You can get by without a lead player but you usually can't get by without a rhythm player. Playing in bands you learn your parts. By themselves, without another instrument or singer, they don't sound like much. In a group they sound good. If you intend to play by yourself you should learn the rhythm then jump to the solo and back to rhythm. There is no song if there is no melody. Learn it and the lyrics.
