Question:
My guess would be that most people don't listen to much classical music (I'm included in that statement). I haven't heard that much in the line of classical guitar pieces. I wasn't aware that John Williams even PLAYED guitar (is this the same John Williams that did Star Wars?) I guess that most of the people who posted their top guitarist are the ones that THEY feel is the most talented. Most appear to judge talent by skillful speed (Yngwie Malmsteen fans), others judge based on feeling (fans of EC and Hendrix), others still judge by innovation (The Edge and some of the more obscure guitarists). Here's one to bring to the forum (even though it might not be appropriate). Whom do you think is the best vocalist?
Answer:
John Williams the guitar player is an English fellow. Go and find an old LP or CD of his, you will be surprised. He headed a band called SKY in the70's which was part classical, part fusion, part rock, a bit of everything. Some great stuff. The liner notes on these albums are a must read ('we ran the classical guitar through a Marshall Stack ....'). Also, on the 'Secret Policeman's other Ball' LP, he did Won't get fooled again with Pete Townsend. Very innovative for a classical guitarist.
