Question:
I own a Fender DG 31s acoustic guitar that I really love in every way. My problem is the strap peg keeps coming out. What could I do to have it stay in? Is there an easy fix? It has mahogany sides and back......
Answer:
Slip an appropriate size wall fixing plug in the hole and screw on a metal strap button. Is this a metal or plastic strap button held in by a screw that is too loose? If so, here's a fix. Remove the screw and strap button. Get a few toothpicks, dip them in Elmer's white or carpenter's yellow glue, put them in the hole where the screw was. Break off the toothpicks flush with the top of the hole. When the hole is about half filled with toothpicks and glue, replace the strap button and screw and let it dry overnight. Is the strap peg a wooden or plastic dowel-type affair that slips into a hole in the bottom of the guitar? My fix for that is to either get a larger strap pin from your dealer, or put a winding of masking tape over the part that slips into the hole in the guitar. Experiment with different amounts of masking tape until you find the amount that makes the pin snug in its hole. Those are the two most common type of strap buttons or pins.
