Question regarding an Aria guitar

Tagged As: Aria Guitar

Question:
For some time ago I played on a friends guitar, and noticed that it had a way better sound that mine, and also the fretboard was easier to grip, on that way, making my performance better. I asked if I could buy it, but I couldn’t, sadly he only plays it occasionally, but still I couldn’t buy it from him. I noticed the rich and powerful sound it gave, compared to my Antonio Lorca model 10, and it was very overwhelming. The Aria guitar is an Aria A 554 classical/Spanish guitar, I looked it up at Aria´s website, but it wasn't there, and I also tried contacting them with no positive result. Does anyone have any information on this guitar, where can it be bought, what’s the price, or just something to satisfy my hunger?

Answer:
Sounds as if it might be one of the Areas from the late 1960's. They made some real nice flamencos with cedar tops back then. From the ARIA webside, it says the model 554 is circa 1971 with laminated spruce-top and laminated rosewook back and sides. Probably made in Japan at that time. Check it out from here: http://www.ariausa.com/archives/acc.html You may want to check out newer model AC-35, AC-50, AC-80, etc. I bought an AC-80 last year, solid spruce top and solid indian rosewood back and sides. The guitar is a joy to play! Believe The Blue Guitar in San Diego, CA,www.blueguitarsandiego.com is a dealer. This is not a high end guitar.

I just purchased an A554, I love it. It appears to have been well taken card of, and is in really good shape, except for one cosmetic injury on the side. It sounds really mellow and rich. My son is always grabbing it to play it, when he has several newer guitars he could play instead. It's a treasure to me. I replace tuner pegs, they were split, some new strings, and wow, we are ready to play.

All I can say is that I somewhat sympathize with you. I was how ever able to get my hands on the Aria of my dreams. I sacrificed a 1967 Gibson LG-0 acoustic to get it but it was worth it in the end. I play an Aria AC-150. They are tough to come buy but there is not a whole lot of demand for them so you can get them for a descent price used (I got mine for $599 w/ a case). I would check Ebay often because they do come up once in a while. I have played classicals in the $4000 price range and they don't come close to touching my AC-150. Good Luck buddy! And remember you will never regret buying an Aria.

I have a 1971 ARIA guitar A 554 which I purchased in 1971. It has been hardly used and is in very good condition, it has a laminated spruce top and laminated rosewood back and sides. I am just about ready to try and sell it on e-bay.
