Question:
I am debating whether I should buy the Santa Cruz D/PW or Tony Rice model I own a handmade 12 string guitar (sitka spruce top/rosewood side&back dreadnaught & it sound gorgeous!) but I am looking for a high end (flat picking) 6 string acoustic guitar! I want to know the sound differences I played used Tony Rice model guitar in the shop and it sounded just awesome! I never played D/PW before I know that Tony Rice has the bigger soundhole but other than that I don't see any differences! If anyone have played both guitars please reply! I would really appreciate your replies! ps. I am looking for the guitar that has a lot of base plus clear tones! If anyone knows better guitar, please reply me! I heard that Colling D2H has the great sound too If you know anything about them please reply
Answer:
There are great Santa Cruz guitars and there are some duds. If I remember correctly, the TR has a larger sound hole, so that does make a difference in the sound - there was a great Santa Cruz dread in Buffalo Brothers last week. Personally, I prefer the sound of the Collings - if you are going for the bluegrass sound and don't want a Martin, that's the way to go. The biggest advantage of the D/PW is the price. So, which feels better to your hands when you play? It helps to take along someone else with you when you go so you can also hear the guitars from the other side.
