Martin Acoustic Guitar

Tagged As:

Question:

My father has a Martin Custom (this is what the label inside says) acoustic guitar. It has a built in pickup for use with an amp. He bought this about 8-9 years ago and is no longer able to play due to arthritis in his hands. He is considering selling this but has no idea of its value. Can anyone e-mail me and let me know the value of this and possibly what year(s) this was made. If it helps, the guitar is in excellent, and I mean excellent condition and has a hard shell flight case which also looks like new. Any information>

Answer:

Right about that last sentence! Back in the 70's (?not exactly sure), Martin stopped putting model numbers in Custom Shop instruments. All the neck block says is Custom! Hence, it could be anything, from a modified D-18 to a Brazilian something or other. If it's old enough to have model info, let us know. If all it says is Custom, take it to a reputable dealer. This is *not* a garage sale instrument. Depending on what it is, it's worth at least hundreds. Final thoughts. Like Chris said, your dad probably has a good idea of what he ordered. (Is there anyone who's forgotten how (s)he's spec'd her/his lone Custom Martin?) Is the bill of sale in the case?
